As explained from FACEL, domestic demand is robust, with negligible imports, and exports from the EU may currently be attractive. "Inventories are weak, as demand in December 2020 was stronger than expected," they clarify. Finally, other raw materials such as steel and zinc have experienced rises of more than 40 %.

This upward trend has been taking place especially since the second half of 2020, although has increased even more since the beginning of 2021, according to the analysis carried out by FACEL.

“This crisis - they explain from the association - is the result of a strong economic recovery with high growth prospects sustained, both in Asia (particularly in the Far East, with China, the world's largest consumer of raw materials, in the lead) as in USA, for the stimulus packages of the new Biden Administration. In China, in particular, growth of 7.5 % is forecast in 2021.

To put the figures in context, it should be explained that this increase in the price of raw materials, which will inevitably affect the final price of certain productss.

Also the DIY and Hardware Manufacturers Association showed his concern a few weeks ago.
